A new tradition…

Ava Chair

My mother-in-law made us a pretty schweet offer a few weeks back that we just had to take her up on.

She said that she wanted to start a new tradition where the grand kids came over to her house on the night before Thanksgiving to give the parents some free time before the Holiday. The rule is; they must be at least two years old, but they get to spend the night. Then they will work on putting up the Christmas tree while the parents make sweet, sweet love do whatever they want.

It’s a free night from the offspring. This is amazing. Now it’s not that we don’t like hanging out with this little Ava Beans character, but it’s nice to have some time alone.

It was a bit strange actually. Allison and I didn’t quite know what to do at first. It made us realize that we haven’t been alone together, without child for a while now. It felt like we were dating again and the world was open for us to do anything. So what did we do on this rare occasion of freedom?

Laser Tag.

You heard me. We tagged it up with some friends and got some dinner afterward. It was an awesome time and we just might have to make it our annual getaway. You gotta admit, my wife looks pretty good with a glow in the dark phaser.

LOL how fun! That’s very nice of her, I’m sure it was a good time for the kids as well…maybe not as fun as laser tag though ;)

    That’s so great!
My grandma used to do that with me and my brother too. Only she was so crazy about us that after that one night over, we had to have a grandma-day at least once a week (without sleepover, though). This has kept on for 16 years now, only now we go shopping or getting crazy haircuts my mom would never allow instead of visiting playgrounds.

What a wonderful gift for everyone involved! What a great new tradition for you and your wife. Grandma time is always special for her and the kids. Great memories will be made for the kids. Giving the kids relaxed, loving parents is even better.

Sounds like tons of fun. My mom takes our kids about once a month and usually for a few days. It’s great!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
