It was beautiful out on the day after Thanksgiving. In between the false grandeur of Black-Friday sales and nap time we decided to head out for a hike to begin working off the extra pounds.
Honestly I think the most amazing part of the experience was the fact that we fit 7 human beings into my wife’s car. It was Allison, her sister Andrea, Ava Beans, my nephew Harrison, and our housemates Ryan and Carrie. I was there too. And we all shoe-horned ourselves into a Pontiac Vibe. It was impressive. Except for the moment when I noticed I had stepped in dog poop and I was sitting on my shoe. That was unimpressive.
I’m amazed by the amount of local hiking spots we have around us. This particular place, Mt. Airy forest, is only about 5 minutes from our house. We’ve got great spots like this all over the place…and usually you would never know they were there.
Oh Harrison. This boy is continually tormented by Ava. She beats him mercilessly until he snaps and begins biting. We always know when he’s had too much abuse when he starts opening up his mouth really wide. Watch out.
And then it’s time to get back home for hot chocolate by a fire.

Looks like fun! (Except the dog poop part, of course

What a blessed life you have. My day after was spent preparing for Advent. That fire looks so nice – it’s chilly here in Texas, by Texas standards – 40 degrees. My southern bones can’t take it!

I spent the day after Thanksgiving shopping and sleeping. Your day looks a lot more healthy.

I love what you guys did to that wall. It gets me looking around our place trying to figure out where I could do something similar. Hmmmm!
Looks like a great hiking trail! Good way to burn off some turkey … and pie

Seems like a wonderful way to wrap up Thanksgiving. We’re lucky in that we don’t have to go find a trail to hike … we just walk to the backyard and head down the trail in the ‘Jungle,’ as my children have dubbed the back 2/3 of our property.
Those pictures are great. It looks beautiful up there! And fires after a big day are always well-appreciated around here, too. Except that we have them when it gets down in the low 50′s. It’s central Texas. We’ve got to take what we can get!

Looks like Doan is getting a little scruffy. I just read an article about that. They call them metrognomes.

We have a vibe and 2 carseats. The most we’ve ever fit is 3 adults and 2 kids… How did you decide who rode in back.. paper rock scissors?

Such fresh bliss.

Fun fun fun! I love that last shot. The fire and Allison’s newly painted wall look so warm and cozy.
Happy 1st of December!
Have a ridiculously blessed day!

I love your photography Ryan. I learned a lot from your tutorial a few posts back. I love taking great shots. Unfortunately I have a crappy camera at the moment and don’t have any good shots. I’ve been told that I have great composition. I’ve never had any formal training.
We have some neat tucked away places in Tacoma and outlying areas that we sneak off too occasionally. Thanks for sharing.
