Goals and Dreams…

Last night my men’s group and I drafted out a list of 100 goals and dreams.

We aimed to have 90 of them be lifetime goals/dreams and 10 of them to be completed in 2009. Each man’s list looked very different. Some of the guys completed the entire list while at group and some of us still need to finish our list up.

I got to #75 before the night was over. These items are by no means exhaustive, but they are things I want to do/be/buy/give/see.

You should write one.

Say, why don't you post a comment, subscribe via RSS, or follow me on twitter?

This list is AWESOME!! “Join a fight club” kinda cracked me up!

I did a list of 40 things to do before I turned 40 before my bday last August. I did 29 of them, but at least I did some of them! It was very cool to have goals to look forward to. Right now I’m working on my list for 2009.

I wandered over here from PW. Love your blog!

I would start mine and get to number 9.

I’d write something about not procrastinating on a single thing in 2009.

Then I would promptly say the other 91 can wait a little while.

Just a thought… You may want to forgo that “start beer drinking” if you truly want to achieve a certain weight. Unless you are trying to GAIN! :) How about “drink more water”!

  7. Great list. Reminds me of Mark Batterson’s life list. I’ve started mine but haven’t gotten to 100 yet.
Appreciate your sentiment, goals and honesty here.

I’m going to have to post my list too, when I finish it. Snap, I’m so slow. I’ve been writing them on a post it note here at work to ad to my list when I get home.

I think the best goal ever was Skin a Bear but I kind of liked Get punched in the face too.

  12. Hannah says:

Good luck with those! I just did a 101 in 1001 days and so far I am working on a bunch of them and making a sub list to add to it. I think I need to add enjoy beer as well. My palate just isn’t honed for it, but I can tell that certain beers could be good. My tongue isn’t trained yet- and I know it would make my man sooo happy if I could enjoy a beer with him :)

@TheDan — One of my goals for 2009 is to punch someone in the face so when I see you Sunday, we can each mark something off our list.

  16. Deirdre says:

Love it! :o ) Think you have a better chance at staying at PW’s ranch, but I’d love it, too! :o ) Also would love to adopt… thinking about it. I was a bit worried when I saw have 4 kids… unless Allison is having quads, or you adopt 3 this year :o )

    I could totally go for 15 recipe tutes from you… that’s how I found you! :o )

Owning chickens and giving away free eggs to neighbors and friends is what I do! Let me know if you need plans for a coop and pen…we made one 2 years ago. Check out http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/ for good info and all the different varieties of chickens!

I love that idea! I think I’m going to make a list of my own.

What are the ideas you have for a biznistry? I’m really interested in that.

  19. Plano Mom says:

I’d do the Ferrari thing AFTER you give everything away…

Nice list, I too want to stay at PW’s, in that nicely updated Lodge.

I do wish you’d reconsider the trampoline. They’re a concussion waiting to happen. Or at least, don’t combine the beer and trampoline!

As for chickens, we had them when I was a kid. Swore I’d never own them again, and still have trouble eating chicken. They’re not the cleanest or the smartest animals.

Kudos to you for including Ava and Allison, so often we forget those people closest to us.

Good luck on your list – you’re already at least one regular reader toward your 2009 goal!

Thanks for sharing this. The other day I was thinking about doing something like this and you’ve given me the final push to do so. It’s good to have goals and desires, short and long term, that help fill life up to the brim and keep days from being wasted.

Hey hey hey, it is NOT my goal to get punched in the face. That was another guys list. I have already been punched in the face a few times, thank you very much. I just posted my list and you will not find get punched in the face on there.

Ps. I’m the perfect person to punch in the face. I’m a pacifist so I don’t hit back. :)

I so appreciate your honesty. You’ve inspired me to make my own list, and I like your debt-free timeline. I think I’d been thinking it was all-or-nothing in a year for my family. I don’t think we can do it in a year!

  26. Jill says:

I love how absolutely honest you were by mentioning the pornography. It seems that either most guys don’t care to fix this problem or they are too ashamed and I think it’s fabulous that you are standing out in the crown to publicly honor your wife by saying “no”. I applaud you as I’m sure your wife and God do too!
