Sharing your tattoos…

So far over 50 images have been sent in! Some are really nice and some are…well…you know what Mom’s say about keeping your mouth shut if you don’t have anything nice to say. :)

One thing is for sure though…they’ve all got a story. You can click on the images to lead you to the blog or webernet page of the owner. Some folks don’t have blogs, so it will just redirect you back to here.

If you’re tattoo is shown below, please feel free to claim ownership of it in a comment and tell us what it means or why you got it. The story is what it’s all about.

Did you place bows over cleavage and crack? Haha You are funny. Or did she? Oh that made me laugh out loud! It reminded me of Grandma Frieda or Cheryl with careful flower placement.

Hey everyone! My tattoo is of the crutch rising from the waves and says “Transcend” on it. The meaning is this. In October of 2008 I was two hours into my honeymoon when I was hit on my right side by a large wave. At the time my foot was sunk in the sand and it caused damage to my knee. I ended up with a damaged ACL, multiple meniscus tears and a tibial plateau fracture. I was told I needed to stay off my foot (no weight whatsoever) for three months minimum. During this time I got a blood clot in my calf from the immobility and had to go on a terrible blood thinning therapy. After 4 months I had surgery to fix the damage and then spent 3 more months trying to figure out how to put weight on that leg and walk. I ended up on crutches for 8 months when I got off them I got this tattoo in memory of what I had overcome. It was a long hard road and I didn’t want to forget that I made it through it.

Thanks for the post Ryan! There’s some great pics on here.

They are all so unique and beautiful in their own right. I won’t be sending mine as it’s quite personal to me, but I really enjoyed seeing these.

Mine is the MIGHTY WARRIOR tat with the horse (pardon my poorly shaven legs!).

Once God showed me in a “vision” during worship (sounds all floaty, I know, but that’s what they call it when God gives you a mental image!) of how He saw me…It was during the song “Mighty Warrior” and I was on a white horse riding past a big cloud of darkness that was bearing down on loved ones. I pulled the horse in between them and the cloud of darkness and faced the darkness. This afforded them time to get up and gather their strength. At first I discounted this as my own make believe (and prideful) image but a trusted friend later told me that God was adamant that she make it clear that it was neither prideful nor my own thought. That He had been showing me my part of my identity in Him. This was how he saw me…And now, almost a year later, I do this very thing in Sozo ministry – Step between someone and the darkness so that they can see and hear clearly from Father God.

  6. Helen says:

I also relate to the story the song “Mighty Warrior” is based on – Gideon – in which an anxious, fearful man was called out by God to lead an army and was assured by an angel – “The Lord is with you, Mighty Warrior”.

wow, that was so train-wreckish for me…I was grossed out many times, but I couldn’t stop looking. …the tattoos were great, I think it was the ‘up close’ on some of the raw skin and hair follicles that did me in. (sorry).

I am ‘cleavage and crack’ girl, and while I expected to have that little bit of crack covered I didn’t think the cleavage was bad. That bow is more obvious LOL!

Dude…the bows made me seriously LMAO! Nice!

I’m that slightly contortioned person with the winged anchors and Macado on her shoulder :)

My senior year of High School my grandfather died (on my sister’s Birthday no less) and my mother, sister and I went to visit my grandmother to help her clean out her house and divide things left to other’s in his will and such.

My sister (being 7 years my senior) spent a good portion of her life near my grandfather, while I moved out of state when I was 6, and had few memories of him that were substantial. At the time my nickname was Mac short for macadamia nut, and when we arrived in California I noticed a lot of mug and shirts, buttons and caps all embroidered engraved or otherwise emblazoned with the letters M A C on them.

In the Navy my grandfather’s nickname was Macado ( Mack – a – Doo), and lacking anything else other than my own memories to connect with him, I took his nickname as my own, swearing that should I ever have ink placed on my body the first would be in honor of him.

I’m the one on the beach, my wife, Kelly, has the two below. Her leg tat says “I am my beloved’s” and mine says “And my beloved is mine” in Hebrew. (Song of Solomon 6:3) The other one of Kelly’s is the Tree of Life.

  15. Lo says:

i’m the ‘take to the sky’ girl, along with the ‘stars up the ribcage’ girl. take to the sky is a song by tori amos… she wrote it when no one would give her a record contract, and instead of conforming (ala katie perry and brittany) she said, screw this, and wrote ‘have a seat while i/take to the sky’ meaning… you be what you want, but me? i’m not changing. not for anyone or anything. i’m taking to the sky all by myself. and she did. reminds me every day to not listen to others and to follow my heart.

and the stars? i just love rib tattoos and stars and … i hate my ‘lovehandle’ area, so this makes me feel beautiful every. single. day.

thanks so much for sharing ryan :) i LOVED all the tattoos!!! such beauty!

My tattoo is the one that says I will go on the rest of time remembering the sparkle in her eyes, the glowing of her smile… My Mom died of cancer 3 years ago and I got the tattoo in honor of her. We were very close. I wanted something that would show how she made my life better and that even though she died fairly young (56) she is still apart of me.

  19. Samantha says:

mine are the red rose with the name Abagail and the one with the gun and helmet that says “He gave his tomorrow for her today”. The rose is pretty self explanitory-it’s a tattoo with my daughter’s name and date of birth. My husband also has one somewhat like it. The other one is a memorial tattoo for a friend of mine that was KIA in Iraq on Jan 9, 2007.
Hopefully soon, I’ll be able to do a coverup on a tat that I had done when I was 18. The artist really did a bad job on it.

  20. brittany says:

My tattoo is of the alien. I wish I had a beautiful story behind it, but I don’t. When I was 12, i wanted to get an alien tattoo. Obviously my mom was against the idea, and told me if I still wanted it when I was 18, to go ahead. At first there was no meaning behind it, I just liked it because it was weird, and since I made it up, nobody will ever have one like it. Now I tell people that the alien represents mankind, and even though there is plenty of food (the apples), he isn’t satified. He just has to have a banana.

Treble Clef w/the black and red crosses. I was 21. It is on the underside of my right wrist. it is 2 It is deeply significant to me and placed very strategically. It reminds me of who I worship when I sing or play.

2nd tattoo…This picture didn’t make it but I put the links below. This one is on my left leg just above my ankle. And yes it hurt like a mother. All my tats are reminds to me of something important in my life. 10-21-93 is a day that I gave up and became more than I ever imagined possible.

3rd tattoo…This is my tat that is on my back between my shoulders. The design is the crown of thorns broken into a heart with the Hebrew for servant’s heart in the middle. If there is one thing I want to be accused of it is having a servant’s heart.

These gave me some ideas for the placement and designs of possible tattoos for me and my fiancee. We’ve been thinking about the matching wedding bands or something else that’s the same but meaningful to both of us.

  23. Staci says:

Bah! You posted the one with the fish-lips! Yep, that’s me with the fish-lips and the “Heart of Stone” tattoo on my inner wrist. It’s my favorite so far and believe I got that one back in ’07.

When I got this tattoo I wasn’t looking for it – it found me. I went in looking for something colorful and fun and as I looked thru the art on the wall I saw the Heart of Stone and immediately knew that it was there waiting for me and it just had to be done on my inner wrist.

I wear my heart on my sleeve and it was always a heart filled with dreams, faith, hope, compassion, love, and a heart that found the good in all people. Over the years it became a heart of stone – a heart filled with rigid reality, brutal honesty, anger, and indifference – still worn on my sleeve. It has taken me some time but that heart of stone has started to soften and let the love back in and out.

  26. Jenni in KS says:

Hmmm…I will have to see if dh will let me take a photo of his tattoo. I really like the idea Donny and Kelly had for their tattoos with the verse from Song of Solomon in Hebrew script. Dh and I have talked about getting wedding band tattoos for a long time. He works construction and almost had his finger ripped off along with his wedding ring one day at work. We finally went to see about getting them done, but had several people tell us that a) the design would have to be very simple, b) you can’t go all the way around because it’s too hard to get the design looking nice on the palm, and c) you shed the skin cells on your hands quicker and the tattoo would not stay looking good long. So, I think it’s cool to see other people had that idea and got it done, but I’m liking Donny and Kelly’s idea better.
