Resolve…

“Obstacles cannot crush me. Every obstacle yields to stern resolve. He who is fixed to a star does not change his mind.” – Leonardo da Vinci

Victory is mine. I was called by a friend at Duke Energy yesterday telling me that I am free to tear up my $8,040 electric bill. It turns out a major clerical error was made during the billing process and it just kept slipping through somehow. I’m glad we finally got it figured out too. We had news agencies trying to contact us about the situation. It’s amazing what prayer, good advice, and some friends can do for you.

Sometimes things aren’t nearly as ferocious as they seem.

When is the last time you had something huge blocking your path? Any resolve?

Say, why don't you post a comment, subscribe via RSS, or follow me on twitter?

Isn’t resolve such a wonderful thing. It’s interesting to me that the scarier the situation, the more thankful and relieved we are when it is resolved!

My husband, son and I live in Louisiana with the Air Force. We’ve been “moving” for the last 8 months. His orders (to a different base) have been extended twice, we’ve fallen out of escrow while selling our house once, we moved in and out of an apartment, and we’ve only got our necessary belongings with us, including an air mattress and a pack n play since the military took all of our stuff 6 months ago when we were supposed to move the first time! Whew! So yes, I’ve been discouraged by obstacles recently!
Our house is in escrow as of today, and we are hoping to finally move to North Dakota in a month. :)

Oh, and I’m glad you got that bill taken care of!

This one time I was driving down the road and this huge tree was right in the middle of my lane. Unbelievable. Had to turn around and go another way. Later I came back with a chainsaw. Resolve.

That’s good news! I’ve heard horror stories from other people about the length of time it takes to get billing errors resolved from utilities companies. I’m very glad it worked out for you!

In my life there are a lot of little things that all add up to one huge obstacle. Living in a country with a lot of civil unrest. Not being able to get somewhere because there are riots or demonstrations blocking your way. And not knowing what tomorrow will bring with respect to the government and if I will have to leave for home before it gets too bad. Only having electricity 8 hours a day (two, four hour blocks and one is always when I’m sleeping!) and knowing that tomorrow we may only have electricity for four hours a day. Not always sure if there will be water, and if there is water its normally dirty (I at least have clean bottled water to drink, but showering and washing clothes, etc is a different story…) I could go on…
My resolve comes from praying for peace in my situation everyday from God. I could pray for a change in the situation, but then I would just be frustrated. While I’m waiting for the change, I would grow more and more frustrated and I would accomplish nothing. Don’t get me wrong, I think we should pray for a change in the situation if things are bad. But sometimes we need to learn to have peace in our situation before we can change the situation. Its a lot easier to accept that God is in control and willingly give Him that control than to try to take control yourself.

That is good news! My path is currently blocked, big time. My resolve? Breathing, and continuing to do so. I wish it were something solvable like an erroneous energy bill.

That is a huge clerical error. I would have had a mild arrhythmia when I opened that.

Yay! Glad it’s resolved ;) Whenever I’m facing something “big” I think “How would I be feeling right now if everything was fixed and ok? I’d be happy and thanking God!” So that is my resolve – to always be joyful in the Lord and thankful to Him, because in Him it is already “taken care of”

I am so happy you have resolution on this!

Today my PT comes and we start the process of resuming walking. After six weeks in a wheelchair with the broken leg and collar bone, this all seems a bit daunting.

My biggest obstacle was my knee injury. I know I’ve brought it up before but it is and was such a huge part of my life. The first obstacle, and one that I am still super proud of was when it first happened. See I was only two hours into my honeymoon when a large wave hit me causing serious damage to my knee (multiple tears, acl damage and break.) I was also in Mexico. Most would have just packed it in and headed out but I was determined not to let it drag me down and ruin my honeymoon. So the next morning, while my husband was sleeping, I wheeled myself to the front desk and had them call me a cab and take me to the hospital. Once there I told the doctors (that barely spoke english) to give me a brace and a pair of crutches. By the time my husband woke up I was back in the room cruising around on my crutches and ready to go lay by the pool. I was so proud of myself and spent the week in Mexico making the best of it and it never ruined a moment of our trip. I resolved to not let it get me down and with a positive attitude I overcame the pain and moved forward.

Yes. I realized this morning that I have to fight the ugly situation I face with resolve, though I am already exhausted by the prolonged drain…

There’s no way around it… or I have to modify my values!

I may have to go into it with a “come what may” attitude but I know it’s not likely to end up as the worst scenario. Even the worst scenario can’t conquer me as I am in Christ. So…yeah.

Thank God that bill is resolved!

I got a bill from Sprint for $10k the other day. My heart almost stopped beating. Actually, I think it did. At least for a split second.
I could not even FATHOM how I had managed THAT.
Turns out it was also a “clerical error”.

Resolve lately for me has been our state budget passing, hopefully now this will resolve my fiancee getting a better job & us being able to get married! It’s been an emotional roller coaster since the budget crisis started in July, and more recently with his hours getting cut.

resolve.. for me it was Cancer. How I got through was (1) having incredible support from my family (2) keeping a David stone in my pocket to remind me that ‘the battle is the Lord’s” (3) living in the Psalms for strength and encouragement and (4) telling God daily that my hope would be that somehow He could be glorified through this, whether I liked it or not. The good news is that, as always, HE WAS FAITHFUL! And in His mercy, has brought greater purpose to my life because of my journey.
