Today is our 6 year wedding anniversary.
We dated for 3 years.
I cannot believe that I’ve been with Allison for 9 years now…
…and I’m so in love with her.
I see so many couples that just don’t make it.
While this is sad, it gives me a great appreciation for what we have together.
10 years is just up the road…and then there will be 20, 30, 50 years with each other.
She baptized me, and I baptized her.
Allison took a big chance on me.
For a long time the people around us believed that we shouldn’t be together…
…that we were too different.
But we hung out together almost every day and we realized how well we got along.
What God has joined together, no man can separate.
She still won’t let me get a Playstation 3…
…but it’s so fun to keep asking for it so that I can annoy her.
We bought our house right before we got married and waited until we were wed to move in.
This house taught us so much about working together as a couple…
…and how to not get divorced over painting styles.
I love you Allison. Will you be my bride forever please?

SWEET! You’re a great man, Ryan Detzel! Happy Anniversary, you two.

As one of those who worried when you first started dating, I can say those doubts didn’t last long when I saw how you two looked at eachother…I had the privilege of loving you both seperate from each other first…then loving you as a couple and now a family even more! You two make a great team and I know that you will be together forever. Any marriage born on my birthday is bound to be a success! I love you both, Happy Anniversary!

Happy anniversary! Your beautiful testimonies (this one and the others that I have read over the months that I have been visiting your blog!) of your love for each other make me hopeful. Thanks!

So happy for you two! I just love when you post the baptism pics, Ryan. I always choke up! I still have mine from when I was 17. It was the 80′s and my youth pastor baptised me. Brings back a lot of memories! Happy Anniversary to you and your beautiful bride!

It is a HUGE blessing to be so in love with your spouse. We will celebrate 12 years of marriage in May and I am CRAZY about my husband. I truly believe that God chose him for me and that with God’s help we can work through anything. Our shared faith has helped us through the loss of my brother and my dad, the loss of two grandfathers, troubles with our children, etc. We are bound together and I’m so grateful for him. I try to encourage him and to not speak negatively about him to anyone. We talk about everything and I believe that is the key to our happiness. I wish you and your sweet wife many more years of joy and happiness in your marriage!

COngrats you two! May you have many blessed more years together! We are on our way to 15 this year and I can’t believe it could get better, but it has year after year! Blessings!

Happy 6th Anniversary. Y’ll are so cute together.
My husband & I just last month celebrated our 10th anniversary. They say opposites attract. That’s the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God! In all ways we are opposite.

Congrats! A good marriage just gets better each year…seriously it does! We’ve been together for almost 25 years, are raising 5 kids, have buried 2…I can’t imagine life without him to laugh hysterically with and cry uncontrollably with. Yes this marriage thing was one of God’s greatest gifts to us humans…thanks God, you did good!
First time visiting and am loving it! Kim

Umm. I don’t think anyone has said this, but… you two look hot together.

Congratulations !
I will be re-married one year next month and it’s been amazing. I was divorced and so was my husband, but I prayed for a good Godly man, and that’s what I got. An awesome man that loves me and my daughter unconditionally. A man that has the same passion for music that I do and now we are priveledged and blessed to be able to lead worship in our own church. You’re right, what God joins together, no man can separate….congrats again…

Nuts, we also just had our 6th (march 1st) and also dated for 3 yrs, and also had many naysayers regarding our union. There were many past circumstances influencing that train of thought, all valid, however I couldn’t help myself. I wrestled with it for a long time, and felt God put us together, still questioning is this faith or foolishness. Heb 11:1 was a big determiner for me. I had to stand on faith, and hope that wasn’t foolish. A woman who was sort of mentoring me told me she didn’t think we should be together, my roomate went off the deep end of trying to convince me I was in sin. Even my mom, who is not prone to saying things like this, said, “I will never accept him into my family.” Which hurt, and I have never told anyone that. (But I’m assuming some anonymity here so..)Haha, well, when ya say something like that, God’s gonna getcha. My parents moved away for a yr, and durint that time He totally changed my mom’s heart. Now I think she loves him more than me
Granted, we have had hard times, but I have never doubted that God was in it (or maybe I’m just bullheaded). And he has proven Himself in the fact that we are still together, and growing in ways I only could have hoped. I love my husband, but it is also important to remember that is a choice, especially when you don’t particularly feel like it. And yes, it’s sad to see so many our age not survive the test marriage/life brings.

Happy Anniversary! Today is my 7th with my hubby! (Plus our dating 5!) Funny how I was lead to your blog through PW around our anniversaries! I am amazed looking back on my marriage how much we have gone through in 7 short years – and still made it through stonger and closer!!
Yea for you!! Many, many happy years more!

There were those who didn’t think my husband and I should be together either. Way, way too different. I suspect there are still those among our friends and family who don’t get it.
But, tomorrow will be our 30th wedding anniversary. And we are still as head-over-heels in love as we were in 1979!!
Congratulations on your anniversary.

Okay, SO weird. I just followed the link from Pioneer Woman’s site to yours (12 days after this post), which I had been meaning to do for ages.
March 22 is also my sixth wedding anniversary! I’m pregnant just like your honey (though I’m closer to 28 weeks along), and we’re waiting to find out the gender, too. Plus, we have an adorable toddler daughter (not named Ava; that would be too weird).

you guys are just too cute! Congrats and keep it together! GOd Bless
