Salad of Apple and Orange…

Refreshing. Delicious. Simple.

DSC_0038

* 1 Apple
* 1 Orange
* Lettuce of choice
* Goat Cheese
* Parmesan Cheese
* Balsamic Vinegar
* Olive Oil
* Honey
* Salt and Pepper

We’ll start by slicing the top and bottom off of our orange:

And now to trim down the sides removing any of the bitter white pith:

Now see those veins that connect each piece of orange together? Yeah…we want to cut just inside of those and remove the perfect sections:

These restore the pureness of the orange…you will devour these:

Moving onto an apple…this fellow is of the Empire variety:

Crumble on some of the soft, creamy Goat cheese:

And now it’s time to assemble our dressing. We’ll start with 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil…you typically get what you pay for with this stuff as far as quality goes…

Now add 1 tablespoon of good quality Balsamic Vinegar:

1 teaspoon of honey will do just right:

A pinch of salt and some freshly ground pepper now:

Finish it up with some grated Parmesan:

Now whisk it like you’re in some sort of competition:

This is a tasty Vinaigrette:

Mix your salad into the dressing and consume with delight. Pistachios work well in here too…hungry yet?

    Yes, please! That looks lovely. Too bad the fruit at the market looks awful right now. I will file this away for “when it gets warm”, if it ever does. :)

    Dude, I am so envious of both your cooking and photography skills. That salad looks Ah-Mazing! And those pictures look like they’re straight out of a cooking magazine. I’ll be giving this salad a try this weekend.

    That looks so yummy. you’d think that it would be obvious to put the 2 most common american fruits together, but it has never occured to me to mix apples and oranges. thanks for the idea.

    Ryan, you rock. This salad is dinner this weekend - going to be in the 70’s . . . niccceee.

    I really miss reading your blog, but since I can’t log on during the day while at work (Big Brother) I will just have to make time at home. Like now, duh!

    And, um, Philly chick - I am going to make time to read YOUR BLOG - you crack me up - my husband is from 2nd and Manton and we met 13 years ago at McDaniels.

    Ahhh…can’t mix fruit and veggies (not that that matters to anyone but me). Something strange in my tastes that don’t allow that! But… I will definitely be making your vinaigrette! Looks great. You take great photos!

    Too bad I have to put the kids to bed so it’s too late to get all the stuff for this and make it right now! Thanks a lot, I will now have to go to bed with an unresolved craving. I’m not sure my mouth has watered like this for a salad in a loooong time.

    oh my gosh this looks so yummy and simple! I am a HUGE fan of goat cheese and balsamic vinegar. I would definitely try this. Or like Beth says, feta would be good in that too. I love them both.
