I don’t really like anyone in particular on The Next Food Network Star this year.
I’m having a little bit of trouble understanding the fact that I’m going to have TWO kids soon.
There’s a new human in there. It’s due to come out in just 23 days. Whoa.

I’ve loaded a few recipes up onto The Pioneer Woman’s new project: Tasty Kitchen. You should check it out.
I don’t really like dill.
Outdoor baptism service is this Sunday @ Vineyard Westside. There are already over 30 people signed up to be baptized. I wonder how many will come out of the crowd and get dunked. There’s a free grill-out too…you should come.
I want to learn to make crepes.

I will definitely go check out your recipes on Tasty Kitchen. Heck, I think the only reason my husband of 26 years still puts up with me is because of your Zucchini Cakes!!
(Jeez, you have a beautiful family - congrats!)

I also want you to learn to make crepes.

Crepes are really easy to make. Just like pancakes only a wee bit more delicate. I make them for my hubby and we sweeten marscapone cheese and mix it with blueberries and strawberries to put inside. I’ve had savory crepes before too but whenever I make them for myself I prefer sweet.

Love TheDan’s response! I’m with him, cause your spin will probably be something quite tasty! Beautiful pic of your wife’s tummy.

Ryan, just 23 days!! time is flying by. I’m not crazy about anybody in the next food network star either, but I suspect the Korean girl will win. They have plenty of blacks and females. I’m going to go now to tasty kitchen to try to find your recipes. Cause I love what you cook and I love you!!!

You seem a little scattered today;-) Having a baby in 23 days will do that to you, though.
So, do you have a body of water to dunk folks in, or do you wheel out a tank? We have a portable baptismal tank, but it’s never been outside. Used to have a pastor years ago that said he used to put on a pair of those rubber overalls (used for fishing), tucked into rubber boots, over his suit every time they did a baptism. Until the day one of the junior pastors poked the overalls full of holes. When he got into the tank the pants filled with water, and then he couldn’t get out of the tank when they were done baptizin’. He never wore the rubber pants again. (Who says Christians don’t have a sense of humor?) Anyway, moral of the story is: don’t wear rubber pants to a baptism!

I was baptized as an adult Christian over 20 years ago. Wew, time flies. I would be at the baptism ‘cept I live in Cali and can’t get to Ohio this weekend.
I love to watch baptisms. To hear of peoples waking up to Christ and changing their walks in life. It lifts me up and fills me with joy!! Seems like a huge crowd to dunk at one time. Have a blessed day.

I don’t watch the next Food Network Star, I love dill with fish- can’t find another use for it and had my first two girls were baptized before they got on their first plane rides (12 days old and 14 days old). The third was here in the US and we had her baptism in the middle of the week, right before dinner with just family and friends. Then we barbecued.
Congrats on having another blessing in the works. I can remember the best gift I received after I had my second girl-my husband came home, looked at me and said, “You are so beautiful. You’ve been working so hard- why don’t you take it easy tonight and I’ll bring the girls to you if I think they need you. Go take some time for yourself.”. That was my big-fat-liar of a wonderful husband’s way of gently saying, “You look exhausted and you smell of breast milk.” Ah, I remember that night…all fifteen minutes of it before I fell asleep. Bliss.

Great random thoughts. I don’t like dill either. These 23 days will fly by you know.

I don’t know how to make crepes…
But I will gladly show you how to eat them…
It is a tedious task that takes alot of practice..

So easy with a crepe pan - please post pics of Ava rolling her own
One will throw in whatever you have, I’ve seen her eat blackberries, honey & chocolate syrup rolled up together. She’s a child after my own heart. Her sister will only eat crepes rolled with whipped cream.
23 days - go Allison!

Best way to learn to make crepes: Alton Brown. He did a whole goofy episode on crepes.
Outdoor baptisms are beautiful. I was baptized in the Atlantic on a church trip to Maine with some of my church friends. People waded out into the water to watch.

I love randomness!

Crepes? Aren’t those the really thin pancakes? Man, I love those!
Sorry… any time I hear talk of crepes, I immediately go into Ricky Bobby mode.
We made crepes in High School gourmet cooking class. Very simple. You can do it! But don’t let anyone break your arm! You’ll need it to help with the new baby!

Mmm, crepes. Should be a cinch for you.

Crepes are easy fro someone of your cooking caliber dude. i used to teach public speaking and students had to give a visual aid. My best crepe recipe comes from a student! easy breezy-but you have to stand right by them-walk away and they know it and misbehave. Have fun!

Ryan! What? You don’t like dill?
Okay - some dill stuff is kinda gross. But please, check out this stuff: http://knownbyname.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/dill-weed-dip.pdf
Throw together a little batch of it, haul out the pretzels, or some freshly sliced cucumber, maybe some baby carrots. Seriously - it restored my faith in dill.
My favorite crepes thus far - from college French class, our professor’s wife whipped up some savory crepes with a to die for creamy sauce with sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and the teeniest little tidbits of the most succlent beef I’ve ever had. Wow - they were amazing.

You will be amazed at how much easier adding the second child to the mix is. That poor first baby is such a steeeeeep learning curve. The two most difficult adjustments I had to make were 1) putting into/taking out of the car and 2) bathtime. And bathtime was only difficult when my husband was in his busy seasons (farming) and I was doing bath/bedtime on my own.

In the February 2009 issue of Martha Stewart Living, Clotilde Dusoulier (of chocolateandzucchini.com) offers a Crepes 101 article–very helpful and has a variety of recipes for sweet or savory crepes. Your library likely has the back issue–photos and recipes throughout that issue are worth the effort finding the paper edition.

My daughter, who will turn 3 next month, isn’t baptized yet. I’ve been catching a lot of guff about it, but I would rather her make her own decision about the religious path she wants to take instead of me telling her there’s only one way to go.

That was random, like life…lot of snippets of thoughts and happenings! Baptisms, crepes, babies, and thoughts from a future food network star? Sound like a great life - - full of good things! Good luck with the newest bambino…I think the jump to two, was harder then the jump to three or four even. -CA

Crepes - ahhhh the best! Super easy and yet so fancy. I love your randomness today

I wish I could be the labor nurse for you and your wife…but I live in Seattle. Your daughter is too beautiful for words. Congrats on #2!! Our Mars Hill baptisms are in August at a beach. We’re having a huge bon fire and testimony sharing! Jesus SAVES. We can’t wait! Will look up your food on Pioneer Woman. I made your Mexican Lasagna….YUM!!

I remember being scared to death just moments after the birth of my second child. I started to cry and said to my husband, “What about our daughter?” I was so scared that she would feel left out and would hate her brother. She was fine, and we adjusted fairly quickly to life as a family of 4. I wish I had been where I am now with my walk with Jesus when he was born. I think I would have been a much better and more patient mom. I tried to do it all on my own and really struggled. I try each day to surrender my kids and myself to Him and it makes a HUGE difference in the way I parent. Remember that He is with you in all things, even in the seemingly little things!

Pastor Ryan,
I just want to encourage you to enjoy your girl in the next 23 days, it is the last time she gets to be the only child and the last time it will be just you three. It will be so, so good to have your new baby and so wonderful to have the new edition. But she will look so big (her hands will look huge) when the little one gets here and she’ll take on her new role as big sister, but she’ll no longer be the baby, she’ll be the little momma. So love her and hold her and cherish the moments because it’s all over way too soon. You’ll blink your eyes and she’ll be leaving for college. Just enjoy.
Blessings,
Carla Collier (the mom who’s girl was gone way too fast)

Before you get “Baby Head” (which describes the first 12 months of having a new little one around), I’d LOVE to know what action you used on the sepia toned pics of your lovely daughter….

I don’t like dill either. Once I had a halibut dish at a fancy restaurant, and they abused the dill. Couldn’t taste anything but dill. I have never gone back to dill since.

My husband and my two older children and myself were baptized in a lake here in our town a few weeks ago. I was great! I have been to inside church ones but never one outside. My daughter wanted to be baptized in the River of Jorden but she had to settle for Lake Anna:) I posted photos on here if you want to see them. Child number two for me was hard. They where 20 months apart. After about 6 months I was as if I always had two children. You all will be great!

Love is always more wonderful multiplied. Three girls and 2 grandsons. Life is such a blessing how can heaven be more wonderful than the love of a small child’s hugs and kisses. What a God we have.

I ‘learned’ this recipe when I was a teenager in Germany and it works every time:
Beat one egg (Or more if you need to make more), add flour until it almost becomes a ball of dough and unstirrable, now add milk and a splash of soda water until the batter is almost too thin (like pure milk). A pinch of salt. Melt butter in a pan, medium/high heat, add batter and swirl the batter in the pan. Cook over medium heat, once slight bubbles form, flip. Add more butter and sugar immediately on top of the crepe and fold in fourth. (If you are making Crepe Suzette for the adults, add a splash of Grand Manier). This might not be a crepe recipe ‘by the book’ but it works. Use a smaller pan in the beginning until you get the hang of swirling the batter.
If it does not work you can blame it on the fact that the recipe came from a Dill Lover and what do they know?
Thanks for a lovely blog I enjoy reading.

I don’t even have children & Carla made me cry =)

I can’t believe you don’t like dill. It has to be one of my favorite spices to use on Salmon. Dill, garlic, pepper, salt and a little lemon juice. I love the mix of dill and lemon.
I’m sad for you not liking dill. But yay for babies!

Congratulations on your family.
This is the recipe I use. My French husband tells me that they are the best he has ever had. Don’t worry when the first one doesn’t turn out…it never does.

I forgot to mention that the recipe does need more milk than called for to make the batter thinner. A commenter said she used about 2 cups of milk and that sounds right to me.
