On Sunday we spent a few hours at the Minges Pumpkin Festival. It goes on every year and it’s pretty fun…especially if you’re into buying dumb crap from overpriced booths. Overpriced booth dumb crap aside…it’s a great time for kiddies. Plus, they have Goetta, Egg, and Cheese sandwiches for sale.
Ava looks serious as I explain the importance of Bacon in our culture and where it comes from.
What a majestic creature. You feed it garbage and it gives you…Bacon. Better than any dog.
Sinister Finnister with his furled brow. Come to think of it…he doesn’t really have brows yet.
Kettle Corn. Yes please.
Now I have to admit that Allison pretty much had to drag me to this event. It was Sunday after church…the Bengals would be playing and without me supporting them from the other side of my television they were sure to lose. But I have to say, getting to see both of my kids ride ceramic deer really made it all worthwhile.
Yes, the Bengals did go on to lose…BUT LOOK AT THIS KID’S FACE!!
In other news, I purchased a new lens last week. As some of you may know, I have been coveting thy neighbor’s lens, the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR – It’s a little out of my price range at over two grand though.
This is where Sigma comes through for me again. I’ve been in serious need – not want…NEED…of a telephoto lens of some sort for a while now. They make a decent version of this fast aperture lens that is a much better value. To be sure…it’s probably not as super-sharp as a Nikon or Canon version of the lens, but it’s also less than half the price. Check out the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG HSM II Macro – I’m digging it so far. It doesn’t have the vibration reduction or image stabilization that a Nikon or Canon would offer, but it does MUCH BETTER on close-focusing. I bought mine from Amazon.
Below are a few paparazzi test shots. Telephoto lenses allow you to photograph secrets like these:
It’s pretty nice to not have to be all up in people’s bidness. It gives you a chance to catch people acting more naturally. For example…here is the elusive FinnBoy in his natural habitat…the bouncy seat:
This lens works for DogCats too. Take a look upon this North American SaulBall in his natural habitat…a couch he isn’t supposed to be on. Little punk dog.
This concludes our broadcast day. Seacrest out.

Fun post today! Love it!
And I love browsing the overpriced booth dumb crap at fall festivals of ANY kind.
AND….I had a pumpkin spice latte on Saturday, so all is right with my Fall, Ya’ll.

And apparently, I like smiley faces.

Ava has THE cutest nose!

All great pics! But that one of Finn in his bouncy seat…forgettaboutit! So very, very darn, stinkin, adorably cute!!

My sister is beautiful and funny… and my niece and nephew are the best!

That picture of Finn in the bouncer is priceless…I love it. My husband and I are having a little boy in January and I pray that he’s as cute as Finn

Your family looks like so much fun!

I am coveting thy neighbor’s breakfast sammich! Duh-rool!!!

“Fun!”

How the heck do you keep a pacifier in your son’s mouth? I have a 4 month old and she WILL not take one. She’s my 3rd baby who won’t take a pacifier. I don’t know where I went wrong!

Beautiful pix. As always! And good for you for going out to have some family time. I’m sure the Bengals managed without you somehow.
My husband used to feel the same way about Purdue until he discovered that they always lost when he watched them. He decided not to watch them. And they still lost (oops except for this weekend).

LOL – you are very entertaining!

I had my first taste of Goetta a few weeks ago when we were in Cincy. Had never even heard of it before! How can that be? Good stuff!

I totally want a good telephoto lens for the EXACT reasons you gave. My fave pics of people are the ones where they are just doing their thing and I have the honor of capturing moments. I want those expressions and movements and twinkles that you can’t force when you pose… and being right up on someone with camera in hand makes so many people so self conscious! So a good telephoto… and I have a decent one but want an even better one… would be a dream!
Lovely photos… really like this post today!

Ryan, You were funny today in you post. Love the Seacrest Out. LOL
Love little Ava. She is adorable. Both kids look just like you.

The second pic of Ava and Allison after bathtime is phenomenal! I want a telephoto lens; or maybe just a personal photographer.

The picture of Finn looks like he is praying and smiling talking to God…cute kids!

Your assessments are so succinct-it’s great! (i.e. pig to bacon comment.)
And your kids couldn’t be cuter, but you must know that.
The pics of the secret are TOO sweet. Priceless expressions.
I wish I knew the secret of taking pictures. I try and try, but end up with a lot of frustration. Grrr. Have fun with that new lens!

i love your way of taking pictures, Ryan! two thumbs up!

I enjoyed meeting you for lunch the other day. I will call on you again to explore new foods. I see some AWESOME father son moments with you and Finn in the future. Peace Bro!

I love your ramdomography. And, as many have said, you have one a-dor-a-ble family! I love the pics of Allison & Ava, way too cute.
On a slightly different note, will you be starting up again with your photography lessons? I just bought a Nikon D70 & have found your lessons very easy to follow & most informative.

I have the same dog! His name is Flea. He is a Wowie. You know, chihuahua, chiwowwow…wowie. I think he’s half terrier, too. I love him.

Ok, you had me til the Seacrest comment. You are so much more entertaining than Seacrest! That and he’s offensive to women or anyone that might have an original thought that isn’t perverted – I’ve caught parts of his radio show several different times so I feel like it was an adequate sample of his lack of character and now I’m wasting more of my time on him and torturing you with my disdain for his antics. Sorry about that, I’m done, back to thinking happy thoughts and random laughing hamsters and babies. =0)

Some day, not far from now, you will be laying on your sofa watching sports on T.V., WISHING that you could take your kids to the Pumpkin Festival instead. Your photos of the kiddos are priceless, just like the memories that both you and your children will treasure always. The children God gives us are just that…GIFTS. Raising your children is such a blessing and I Thank God continually for mine!

Hello! I just stumbled on your blog looking for something else with the word reverb in it – what a find. I love your photos and style most of all I love Saul the Cat Dog! What a great little fellow!
