@natalie, I baked them first and then just scooped out a little space for the icing to go into. I think I used a mellon baller to remove the cake. Do it!

i have 5 kids and a hubby that was laid off last year and now working less hours for less pay, there’s a LOT we go without so that we can have other things (like rent)…we don’t have a cell phone, we don’t have cable or satellite, we don’t have a car payment (our van is completely paid off) and even though we really could use a bigger vehicle, we won’t be getting one…the kids get a lot of hand me downs and shopping from consignment shops…one time a year, income tax return time, do we spend money on wants, and it’s planned out MONTHS in advance, and revised often…and the wants are still things we’ll use quite a bit but are cost inhibitive any other time of the year

I hate to admit this, especially to a man of God, but I am trading a relationship with God and Church for sleep, work, and friends. Over the last few months, I have felt a call to go back to a church so I can create a relationship with God, but make one excuse over another so I don’t go. Ultimately, I’m fearful of what I will discover in myself when I go.

About the teeth… my husband lost his front tooth many years ago. The Dentist did a “temporary” tooth for him that he still wears to this day, 10 years later. It pops in kind of like a retainer. I think it was a couple hundred bucks and looks just fine!

Because He wants to bless us!!! I don’t have kids but I have a lot of kid friends. And sometimes I just want to bless them, just cuz!

Being content doesn’t mean you can’t want. I think whats bad is that if that want is so strong it drives you crazy, constantly in jealous mode, going in debt crazy, plotting out how to steal things crazy. I want a lot of things, but I am content with what I have. I know God wants to bless me and so does my parents, who am I to ignore a blessing eh? Haha. My parents sometimes ask if I have a request for a blessing… sweet!

I’m sure you know all this Pastor Ryan, I’m just think-typing!

I go without fancy laundry soap. I make my own. And disposable diapers. We use cloth. But these and some other things have saved us a bit of money.

Have the Magic Mouse. And cool camera gear. And the kids… We typically go without more of the stuff due to this. Although since dh is doing much better in his career now, we’re OK financially. Not great, with 6 kids, but OK. The bummer for me is that my oldest kids don’t remember when we didn’t have enough money for take-out pizza. They think life is all about Apple computers and cool camera gear.

13 years ago my now husband and I had saved up several thousand dollars for a wedding and honeymoon. Two months before our wedding date, we made the decision to sue for custody of his daughter, then 5. So… the wedding turned into cake and ice cream at our church, and our honeymoon turned into one night at a hotel and a trip to Six Flags for a day. That beautiful girl is now 18. Best money I ever spent on something different than I intended.

Cute cupcake idea and keep your guy card…cupcakes are a guy thing, ask my son. Ah baby boys, how exciting for your friends. Between your Finn and Smitten Kitchen’s Jacob, well I wish I wasn’t in the inbetween stage of having kids and being a grandmother.

Oh I’ve given up ever having new furniture, unstained furniture.

And I found out this past weekend that I do collect something strange. Kitchen tables. I have three that have been in my family…the first being a yellow with red edges drop leaf that my dad and I restained (sort black/brown), the red formica topped table of grade school memories and my parents’ first real dining room table…mediterranean brownish black 70′s piece. See you make us think.

I’ve gone without a mate for the last 16 years to benefit my children. Sounds weird I know, but I tend to attract abusive jerks (like their father) and one of those in their lives is more than enough. My children’s happiness is a far more important than satisfying my need for male company….

To answer the question, I live in a house that is older and I’d love to build a new house, but I had a baby girl 18 years ago at age 35 and I knew when she was born I’d be giving up a lot of things in order to give her a good life. I’m still hoping for a new home someday, it just may not be one I build here on earth. She was worth all the things I’ve had to give up. Now, for the cupcakes, outstanding job!!!
