A Rather Spicy Contest…

I was recently contacted by The Spice House, a company I absolutely love buying spices from, to say that they are really enjoying my blog. (Sweet!) And to say thanks for what I’m doing (What am I doing again exactly?) they were sending me a gift certificate to their spice shop. (Sweet!) This happens from time to time. When your blog gains some popularity, companies will send you a small gift of their product and ask that you say something nice about it on your blog…it’s cool, I get that. It’s a great marketing idea really. But The Spice House didn’t ask me to do that at all…they simply said they like what I’m doing and then they gave me a generous gift to their online store. And so…I love them. I love them a lot.

Here’s what I got with my gift certificate:

A Spice Grater
Microplane

Oh, and look what they send you when you buy a spice grater…a little gift of fresh spices to grate!
SamplePack

Fresh Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Turmeric, and Ginger.
SamplePack2

I got these…
ThreeBlindSpice

And these…
SpiceThingsUp

And these…
SpiceTwice

And this Porcini Mushroom Powder, which I can’t wait to try…
PorciniPowdah

And check this out…the Crown Jewel of my freebies. Something I’ve always wanted, but just couldn’t bring myself to purchase…

Peppermill

MillBottom

Score.

In an effort to share some of the love. I want to hold a contest until some time tomorrow.

I’m giving away a $50 gift certificate to The Spice House.

All you have to do to enter this contest is:

List your subject of drooling in the comments section of this blog and I’ll draw a random winner on Tuesday afternoon. One entry per human please.

Consider re-tweeting this post to your friends if you’re not afraid of some healthy competition.

It would be a toss up between the Baker’s Deluxe set or the Coffee and Beverage spices. The Baker’s set would be for me and the Coffee for the family…decisions decision.

    Shannon Fox says:

@Shannon Fox, err…nutmeg too! Which is a lot like utmeg from what I hear. :)

Growing up my parents had the most amazing hand made spice rack, I loved it dearly. Now that I’ve got my own place my poor spices are just jammed into a large tupperware container. Its really bad! It takes forever to find anything… Of all the things they sell at The Spice House, can you believe this is the one thing I want over all others?! Haha, I have plenty of spices, I just need a place to *put* them! Thanks for the resource too! They have tons of other things that I’m drooling over too.

Knowing me, if I DIDN’T tell my husband about this, I’d *probably* get the bakers gift pack, but i couldn’t do that! so, then knowing my husband, He’d take one look at the site and then we’d end up getting a bunch of new spices & mixes to experiement with at home.

Oh my……I would have to say a peppermill, much like your own and a small microplane. I’ve always thought about buying a microplane, but can’t justify my purchase because I have a 4-sided grater with microplane-like teeth on it.

I would be happy trying something new or getting something I’m already familiar with, but if I have to choose just one for this entry, I’d start with Jamaican Jerk Seasoning. I had a caeser salad (twice!) with jerk seasoned pork on it while on my honeymoon and it was definitely drool worthy!

I would rock the Peugeot pepper mill as well. I’ve been using my boyfriend’s grandmother’s pepper mill, because it’s beautiful and she left it to us, but unfortunately, it’s also inadequate if you like more than an old lady dose of pepper (which I do). Just this very week I began the hunt for my pepper mill, which is in my head “the last pepper mill I will ever buy”. I’ve been struggling in my search oddly enough, and now here you are with a link to a house of spice. Word.

I would start with some saffron threads - a spice I always covet but never buy because it’s so darn expensive. Then I’d move on to some chanterelle mushrooms and try to recreate a cream sauce I had once; it was divine. Then, for one of my friends who claims to hate mushrooms, I’d buy the powered mushrooms and make a sauce she’d love, thereby proving it’s not the taste but the texture she’s averse to. Oh, by the end I will have well over-spent the $50 gift card, and possibly single-handedly kept the spice house in business.

Oh my….how do I choose from the assortment of goodies? I would buy Tahitian, Mexican and Madagascar vanilla beans to make homemade extract. I would also buy some spice jars because frankly, putting ground up spices in a small baggie isn’t cutting it. On that note, I would also buy a spice grinder so I wouldn’t have to keep using my coffee grinder. It works out well on days when you catch a residual taint of cinnamon in your coffee…but not so great when it is red pepper flakes!!

We had our choice of restaurants from Indian to Italian, French to Flemish. Now our choices are IHOP or BBQ. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some BBQ but how I pine for a decent curry.
