Great goals, I wish you all the luck.

Nice list. A while back I did a list of 101 Things to do in 1001 Days. I’ve got a bit more than a year left to work on them. I also need to finish the list, as I’m about 10 things short. Lots have been crossed off though.
{reply}
got any idea what your plan is for #2? this year is my 1911 year. i’m stuck on Springfield, but i hate the price point for anything more than a basic 1911A1; i wish i could get a Para GI Expert, but Maryland’s laws are ridiculous.
{reply}
I would recommed not accomplishing items #36 and #37 simultaneously.
Love your list - and how it includes immediate items, and longer-term things, specifics and generalities.
{reply}
Jesus Storybook Bible is awesome (the BEST kid’s Bible)
{reply}
I think there are a few on there that I didn’t REALLY care to know about… but I admire your honesty. I suppose I could quit reading your blog through a Reader so I can contribute to your hits. Also, I’m super excited about your cooking tutorials!
{reply}
#65 says it all.
{reply}
Oh awesome goals! That inspired me to write down a few of my own.
I read a great quote from Dave Ramsey a few days ago that said, “A goal without a daily plan of action is just a wish”. For some reason that struck a chord with me and has been pushing me to keep moving towards my goal this year.
{reply}
#65 is my favorite and something that we all should strive to do. Good luck achieving your goals…you can do it!
{reply}
You forgot to add go on a big boat to some place warm with the LoveFeast Table friends….oh yeah, that’s so 2011….:)
{reply}
Ryan,I am a computer imbecile,so don’t get irked at my stupid questions! If I read and comment on your posts,is that helping you with #11? I’m becoming a regular and if that is helping you ,I’d be glad!Enjoying yourself while helping someone…great!
{reply}
OK, I’m in a different generation than you, although we do have some things in common. (As you stated once, I don’t much like Christians either.) (Although some of my best friends. . .) My question is, does Allison really not mind you stating your intimacy goals in such a public forum?
{reply}
WOW! Your list is fantastic. I can’t wait to hear about some of these adventures in your blog — especially P90X, cooking tutes, Honduras, Machu Picchu, hanging with the homeless, and everything organic.
This is the first year I’ve really made a list… I don’t really like the word resolutions, so I’m affectionately calling it my Big Ideas. There are several things on there that I don’t really know how to accomplish, things I need to rely on others to help accomplish, and things that scare me silly. This is gonna be an exciting year!
{reply}
Great goals!
‘A Million Miles in a Thousand Years’ is inspiring to me, too!
{reply}
One thing I thought I’d mention, re; the hot tub thing. My bro and his wife put one in their deck about four years ago. Used it the first year and they found their electric bill was so expensive they decided they couldn’t afford to use it anymore. They spent a good 2-3K getting it installed, i.e., electricity and plumbing running to it and there it sits, unused. Something to think about Ryan. If it’s still a really big ‘must have’ then go for it, but I wanted you to know.
{reply}
Ahhhh GREAT List!!!
I am looking forward to reading your accomplishments.
#25 is a fun one!!
Good Luck with your list and thank you for sharing.
Happy New Year to you and your family.
{reply}
The thought of a list of this sort scares me. I simply live day to day with God as my pilot. Whatever happens in that day happens. My main goal is to live obediently to God.
{reply}
Ryan….great goals — and very inspiring. I have to agree with Carol A. above. We have a hot tub and decided not to keep it up for the winter months (maybe living in Minnesota had something to do with it)…anyway, they are expensive to heat - we just decided we didn’t use it enough through the winter to justify keeping up the heat and chemicals. We’ll start it up again in the spring though.
Million Miles is one of my fav books of 2009.
{reply}
I love it! And let me just say, Machu Picchu? Changed my life.
And I personally think it’s great to set goals for the intimacy in your marriage, and to basically make yourself accountable to others for it. Marriage blooms when you have others to encourage you to stick to the goals for your relationship.
{reply}
#65 is by far my favorite
Good luck with your goals and enjoy every moment of the ride.
{reply}
Great list!
{reply}
We hiked Machu Picchu back in 2006! It is the most amazingly beautiful place you will ever go! My Sister in Law and her Husband are missionaries in Cuzco and would love to have you! They have started a church there with a childrens ministry. Here is a link to there blog http://rickyandtracie.blogspot.com/
We are thinking about going again this summer, I would love to meet you!
{reply}
Great list and do the camping thing with your family. We started taking our kids when they were tiny. We threw a pack and play in the tent and it was awesome! Hope you get through most or all of these!
{reply}
Wonderful goals! (I will never be a person who counts the number of times I make love to my fiance, though.)
If you would like fun native-people things (and fun tourist things!) to do in New York City, feel free to ask. I grew up there (lived in Queens, went to high school in Manhattan) and a part of me is always still there even as I go to college in central Florida (and possibly work in Washington, DC *fingers crossed*).
A great way to achieve the “mostly drinking water” goal is to always have some around. This way you’re not as tempted to find something else to drink, since the water’s right there for you. I often carry around a small jug of water. I’ve been known to freeze it mostly full of water overnight, carry it around during my morning classes, and it’s melted but still perfectly cold by lunch (though this is in Florida - your mileage may vary).
Good luck and all the best!
Kawa

36 - 54 - 62
Kind of go together don’t you think?
: )
{reply}
You will love Kenya. We are moving to Namibia Africa as missionaries in March. We spent 3 months in Tanzania last year. It will be worth every second. Be ready to leave your heart there. Your blog is awesome, I think you can get to 10 000 readers this year.
{reply}
Hmmmmmm, good luck ha ha ha.
{reply}
U hope one of your goals is to increase your blog font size. I am a 70 woman who enjoys your blog when I can read it. It’s an old age thing!

@Judie McCaffery, I don’t know what web browser you’re using, but you can press Ctrl+Plus to enlarge the font size in Firefox. There should be a similar thing in all other browsers.

@Judie McCaffery, You can do it in internet explorer by going to “page” and then “font size.”
{reply}
Great list and hope they are in no special order. My husband would have #36 up in the top ten at least, but our goals are a little different as I don’t like ‘camping’. I believe you have a great start on the last one and may you continue the journey.
{reply}
If I read you through Google Reader, does that not count toward your hits? Do you have a subscription number you can track?
Also, if you accomplish P90X (#47), that will take care of getting down 170 (#3) and doing 21 pull-ups (#27).
Love your blog!
{reply}
I am totally cracking up. I definitely have to show my husband your list. Oh yea.. I have to chime in on the hot tub thing. We pulled ours out. The first year we moved into our house we used it a TON (and it really was part of the reason that we bought the house) but it was super expensive to run and cleaning it was a big bummer..not to mention filling it (we pay for water here…not like where I grew up..everyone had wells). My husband is glad not to have the hot tub maintenance hanging over his head.
And if you do #10 can I come with you? Love her!!!
But #2, really? Target practice or protection?
{reply}
so happy to have found your blog! i got off of pioneer woman’s. i have a finn too! and my hubby and i are in full time ministry, AND we just started counterfeit god too! can ya dig it!

You truly disappoint me. I have been following your blog for some time now. I love your photos, humour and insight. But reading your list shocked me - and this was only because of one entry. Number 2. What is this all about? I cannot understand the mentality of wanting a handgun. Guns are for killing. Is this really in your make-up. I certainly am not an anti-gun person when the gun is used for hunting or sport events but what is the implied use of a hand gun? Maybe I got this all wrong, and I hope so. Would be interested in your comment.
{reply}
Ryan says:
January 9th, 2010 at 11:50 am
@Linda,
I must be doing something wrong then, because I’ve owned a gun for 10 years and I’ve yet to kill anything but the occasional sheet of paper or aluminum can. I can try harder though.
In all seriousness though - I have no plans to kill any people. I like shooting guns at targets.
{reply}
Love your #22! A little bit harder with two running around, no? But I think that’s a doable number.
Good luck with this list–it’s a lot but I bet you can do it.
P.S. Send me some deer meat. My chili just ain’t the same without it.
{reply}
Wait a second, are going to accomplish your second goal and use it to accomplish your first goal? If you shoot me I will have to stop coming over your house. Well at least for a couple of weeks until I am well enough to drive again.
{reply}
The sex comments don’t even phase me. I love Song of Solomon. I totally get it and I praying for you and Allison that God will bless you with couple sabbaticals.
I am perplexed at one of your bulletpoints. By your suggestion, I would have to assume you are a sworn enemy of Dan by trying to persuade him to shave his beard. But then you want him to get a date which is normally a good thing.
So… enemy or friend? I am confused.
{reply}
TheDan says:

@Joseph Louthan,
My friends want me to cut my hair, shave my beard (I was recently offered $200 to do so), get a cell phone, and get a date. I however agree with them on the latter.

Andrea says:

@TheDan, Dan,
the haircut, shave and cell phone will assist you in getting a date. I think?

@Andrea,
Hmmmm, an interesting theory. I had a guy in the mall try to sell me a cell phone once by asking me what I would do if I was getting a girls number and didn’t have a cell phone to save it on. I said use a pen.
{reply}
Great goals! I love how real you are and wish there were more people like you around here. Can’t wait to see the pictures and food tutorials you share.
{reply}
This is the first time I’m commenting, but I love your blog! I’ll be living in Cuzco, Peru for the next year, close to Machu Picchu, so if you’d like some friendly guidance or suggestions for delicious places to eat (the food is AMAZING) drop me an email. Great list! Good luck, much peace, endless love for 2010.
{reply}
I love the first item on your goal. I have been following Dan’s blog now and again, and he really seems to be a great guy. Definitely needs to clean up a bit, and the women will arrive! :}
Love the list. Machu Picchu is on my list for my 50th birthday…. coming up soon!
{reply}
thats a good list. you’ve inspired me to make a list for this year, feels more attainable then resolutions.
{reply}
#22 = only 125 times?? Come On, you can do better than that!
{reply}
All My Monkeys says:

@tammy, Considering you have 2 small children in your household, I think 125 could be a bit lofty. Maybe you’re not as sleep deprived as I.
{reply}
So…gotta ask…what is the debt snowball? Am I the only one who did not understand that one?
{reply}
Ryan says:
January 9th, 2010 at 11:53 am
@Terri,
The “debt snowball” is a Dave Ramsey (Financial Peace University) term which means to list all of your debts from smallest to largest and then pay minimum payments on everything but the smallest debt. You then pay as much money as you possibly can towards the smallest debt until it’s completely eliminated and then move on to the next smallest debt.

Love “Get a handgun” !! Be sure to take a firearm safety course though and have Allison take it with you.
Yes! Get back to PW’s ranch! We need to see some more cooking creations from you 2 together!

#14 - It’s realllly easy to say that on January second, but come December 31, you may be singing another tune! We may need a bigger house by next year if many more people come to the plunge!
What does 100% organic mean? Everything you eat or the organic foods being 100%.
I seriously cannot believe your #1 goal is what it is! This is hilarious.

I’ve been planning on writing a list of goals for awhile. I’ve been coming up with the list in my head, but honestly have been a bit scared to write them all down. It feels more intimidating and real when I start writing them down. But I started my list tonight. I have list of goals for 2010 and life in general. My list is up to 60 things so far. I’m feeling . . . ready to tackle things.
{reply}
Hey Ryan - My wife and I are going to make some lists like this for ourselves. Your’s gives me some good ideas. I was wondering if Allie made a list of her own. My wife is 6 months pregnant so many of your goals don’t really stir her in the same way as they do for me when she thinks of the next year of her life. We’d be interested to read Allie’s!
Thanks for reminding and inspiring us to go for all God has for us this year.
{reply}
Not that my little bloggity readership will put you over the 5K goal - but just put up a link- your readership is MUCH younger than mine - but one never knows. My goals for 2010 are rather different from yours - keep husband alive and serving the Lord, keep myself looking upward instead of inward and continue to support Compassion boys in Bangladesh and increase support of Ethiopia mission.
BTW - we have several handguns - yes knowing how to use them is a good thing - having a really effective anti child injury lock is an all important thing. Check with your cop buddies - they should know what works best.
{reply}
Just what a list of goals should be…diverse, ambitious, and balanced between the personal, local, and global spheres. I wish you the best of luck. You have a wonderfully fun journey ahead!
{reply}
Great inspiration to do the same…
{reply}
You could really work 36, 61, and 62 together in some fashion, I am sure!
{reply}
Thanks for posting your list. Inspired me to make my own list.
It’s nice to start the new year with a set of goals in mind. Never done that before
Good luck on accomplishing yours!
{reply}
Michael can help with #15. He is a pro now.
{reply}
Boy, you are only 28, you should easily complete #22!

@Dad,
Haha…I totally agree, and he’s only 27- so he should have that much more energy
{reply}
I do a list too. Number one on my list is to do better on this list than last year’s list.
Number two on my list is to feed my children better rounded meals with more locally grown food. I live in the Cincinnati area too so I am definitely looking forward to #13 and #28.
May you and your family Be Blessed in 2010!
{reply}
#5: you will immediately fall in love with the african people and contemplate bringing several orphan babies back with you, and i support that.
if it weren’t for those pesky immigration officers i would be “that crazy baby lady.” you know, like “the crazy cat lady,” but with babies.
{reply}
Oh, my, I’m blushing. Well, no, I’m not. Fabulous list. If I heard my husband phrase #22 like that, I’d be pretty dang happy(er). We have 4 babies, though, so he must be doin’ alright.
Pioneer Woman is losing her luster. Can’t put my finger on why, but I just don’t have the desire to read her stuff as much anymore…
God bless!
{reply}
YOWWWWWWWWWWZA!!!!

Love how your handgun comes before all your other healhy and family goals… How is that going to help you?

Well the first goal on his list is to get me to shave my beard. I’m hoping they aren’t in any particular order.
{reply}
This is a wonderful idea. I like this.
Much better than resolutions. I’m gonna start one of my own!
{reply}
Sir, you have achieved number 65 many times over.
{reply}
My boyfriend and I spent new year’s creating a similar list. We live in Alaska and would be happy to help you see our beautiful state if you get up here.
{reply}
Wow. That list is awesome–and makes me really tired.
{reply}
If you make it to Italy let me know, I live in Rome!

A bit late to the comment party, but I know a great guy you could buy your silver from!
