Are you male or female? (I have to prove to myself that at least a few guys read this blog)
How old are you?
Where do you live?
What is your favorite thing to eat?
Is there a book or movie that you would recommend?
Are you feeling content, complacent, or something in between?

I am female. 33. I love most food…I have a hard time narrowing it down. Most recently enjoyed The Book Thief. Very creative read. I love the movie Lars and the Real Girl. So rare that the “church” is presented in such a positive light. LOVE that movie.
Typically, I’m a fairly contented person. I have a wonderful husband and 3 amazing children. I am tremendously blessed and try to live with an eternal perspective. I love the Lord and He loves me…yep, content most of the time.

I love to eat pasta. Of all kinds.
I recommend the book Night of the Avenging Blowfish by John Welter.
I am feeling very discontented. My life is upside down, and though I’m seriously trying to stay positive and be the best me I can, my floaties are deflating.

I’m a food snob…so I have many favorite things to eat. But that list is far surpassed by things I don’t like to eat, unfortunately.
Movie: Magnolia. Every person should see this movie. Especially Christians.
Book: At the moment it would be “Jesus Wants to Save Christians” by Rob Bell. Best he’s written imo.
Feeling: Kinda fleshy. And a bit like Monday.

I’m a 23 year old female from Nashville, TN. Eating is one of my favorite things to do. Specifically eating anything with crab. The book I recommend for everyone is “A Girl Named Zippy”, a hilarious memoir about a girl growing up in the Mid-west. A movie I suggest seeing is Uptown Girls. Just kidding! Seriously though, “The Triplets of Belleville” is a beautiful movie. It can be boring if you’re not in the right mood, so watch it when you need a break from complexity. Contentment is an issue with me, as in, I never have any. I’m working on that, very much.

I am a 29-year-old female living in Nebraska. My favorite thing to eat is ice cream, but more often than not it’s soup right now with the temperatures we have here. I am an elementary teacher and mom, and spend most of my time reading kids’ books. I’d recommend “Sakes Alive! A Cattle Drive,” “Bubba the Cowboy Prince” and any of the books by Mo Williams. Right now I’m feeling in-between. We’re expecting and due in six weeks, and it’s a completely different experience than the first time around. I feel pulled in many directions trying to get everything done, but don’t seem to be making much headway in any direction.

I am female and 35. I live in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. I don’t know what my favourite (with a ‘u’) thing to eat is off hand but I love a glass of cold milk, it goes with almost everything. . I am in the middle of The Book Thief and I am really enjoying it. I’ve got a case of the Mondays and a bit of the January blahs. Were is 2010 going to go for me? A lot of contemplation lately.

I’m female/34 years old for two more weeks/I live in GA near TN/I read everything I can get my hands on and then seem to forget the names of the books as soon as I lay it down to move on to the next one, so it is hard to come up with any favorites. There are a few I have had for years that I read over and over(guess that means they are worth reading)Roots (yep, that one) and SwanSong. I have everything from Robert Frost to Stephen King to Martha Stewart in my bookshelf. As for my current state of being–I would have to say struggling, but with hopefulness.

Seriously: my favorite thing to eat is oven-roasted French green beans. Just a little olive oil and sea salt, and I’m good to go.
One of the best books I’ve ever read (in terms of its impact on my heart and my life) is Brennan Manning’s “Ruthless Trust”. It’s a spiritual butt-kicker in the best way. As far as movies, I wept like a baby through “The Blind Side”, and I think I’ve cried at 3-4 movies in my life.
I vacillate between contentment and restlessness, with a whole lot of tired mixed in. Mostly content, as I find myself growing more and more in love with my husband every day. We’ve been married just 8 months now, and I had no idea it was possible to love someone this much. It’s awesome.

I’m in a place of discontent right now and it feels really dark. For a year, I’ve had my entire life consumed by my job and I don’t know how to get back to “normal” now. I love a really good salad (NO iceburg!) or tomato/mozzarella/basil anything. Cheese never hurt anything, and I’m kind of on a spicy kick lately but I think that’s a pregnancy thing.
The only books I’m reading right now are birth books, so you might wanna pass on my list

Definitely inbetween. In a lot of ways. Getting ready for a baby, EXTATIC and a little terrified about the switch to 2 kids. Trying to rest on God but wishing my faith was far more ‘advanced’. Getting our house organized but wishing the entire downstaris would re-paint itself

Are you male or female? I am most definitely female.
How old are you? I’m 20 years old. And my 20th has definitely been the best year of my life so far.
Where do you live? The Burgh of Pitts.
What is your favorite thing to eat? I’m currently dealing with pregnant cravings so my favorite thing to eat right now is not necessarily the norm for me. but right now it’s red Popsicles and bagels with cream cheese.
Is there a book or movie that you would recommend? I recently watched “The Business of Being Born”, a documentary on birth in America. I highly, highly recommend it.
Are you feeling content, complacent, or something in between? Mostly I feel content. I’m newly married and expecting my first child. Every time I stop to think about it I find I’m really happy. But I find myself to be really grumpy if I’m not continually counting my blessings. Character flaw on my part.

I live in Franklin, TN, which is right outside of Nashville. I moved up (or over?) from Memphis 3 years ago and haven’t looked back.
I really love all food, and I love to cook just about anything I can get my hands on. I will say that there’s something about a perfect, medium-rare steak that makes me weak in the knees. Especially if it’s served with a good glass of wine.
My all time favorite movie is Almost Famous, but ONLY the director’s cut. It’s such a beautiful character study, and the music pretty much can’t be beat.
My pastor yesterday said something that shook me quite a bit:
“You will be the same person you are today in 10 years, except for 3 things: the people you meet, the places you travel, and the books you read.”
I’ve decided that this year, I want to be much more intentional in all that I do, and turn my life into an epic adventure. Which just might mean quitting my job, and leaving the country for a little while. We’ll see!

My favorite thing to eat changes regularly. Today I’ll say – my homemade beef stew and breadsticks. Tomorrow it will be something different, I’m sure!
I read a *lot* and love movies. Let me try to limit my recommendations to less than a handful:
Movies: The Red Violin (beautiful music, captivating story), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (classic Danny Kaye)
Books: Outlander (series) by Diana Gabaldon (great story, wonderful characters and love that spans the ages), Storm Front by Jim Butcher (Dresden Files series – the best of the urban fantasy market right now)
Content or Complacent? Usually, I am very content with my life. I am blessed with a wonderful husband, two great kids, a challenging job and great friends. Today, thanks to an unsettling dream, I’m more in a contemplative mood

My two favorite foods are double cheeseburgers (but only from certain places) and a nice rare steak.
I’m a nerd for biographies so I’d recommend either of Alan Alda’s autobiographies. Also, Barbara Walters’ memoir, Audition, is really amazing simply because it’s amazing to read and learn about how all her hard work made her very respected it what had really been a boys’ club before her.

It would be impossible to tell you my favorite thing to eat, there are too many things. However, sushi is high up there on the list. So are really really good hamburgers.

28 years old, from Lexington, lived in NKY (while working in Cincinnati), but now I live in Central Indiana.
I love to eat pretty much anything, but my faves are Chinese food and pizza. I don’t think I realized how much I loved pizza until I went to Italy and we basically ate it every day. And, not necessarily the good kind, just whatever was available from a random stall everywhere.
I watch what’s popular or up for awards. My preference are things that don’t make me think (tho some movies that have are some of my faves). I’m not a big reader, though I plan on re-reading DaVinci Code sometime in the next 4 months, since I’ll be visiting several of the places mentioned in the book in May.

Honestly, I think my answer depends where I’m at in my monthly cycle. I had two miscarriages in 2009 and we’ve been trying to get pregnant again for 4 months. I’m hopeful as I approach the end of my cycle, but get discouraged when I found out I’m not pregnant. Each month I have to go through acceptance again that I’m on God’s path, not mine. It gets easier each month. Right now I’m content.

I can’t pick a favorite thing to eat because I’m always finding a new favorite or basically just thinking about what meal comes next. Basically, food takes up a lot of my brain…
(I just thoroughly enjoyed a few choc chip pancakes for breakfast, if that counts for anything!)
A book I’ve recently been getting tons out of is “Boy Meets Girl” by Josh Harris – not the most applicable for any of you married folks, but super good for anyone looking to date in a godly way. I’d recommend it to anyone thinking about what it looks like to be set apart in the area of relationships. (Like anything though, take it with a grain of salt…sometimes he’s a little overbearing)
Movie? Standby favorite – “Secondhand Lions” – it makes me smile every single stinkin’ time I watch it.
I’m feeling both content & challenged. Right now God is teaching me some lessons about how to be weak and invite his strength to take over where I leave off…not easy. A relationship that means a lot to me is under a lot of stress, and I’m trying to rely on Him for wisdom and grace, because I’m all out. But I’m also content b/c I’m seeing new relationships grow and really beautiful things come out of the stress and pain and weakness.

I want to see “À la folie… pas du tout” again. It has a wonderful surprise that is great to watch other people experience. The list of books that I would recommend is just about endless, so I’ll try to keep it short. When People are Big and God is Small by Ed Welch, The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper, Tender at the Bone by Ruth Reichel, …
I am feeling content with living in the UK, a mixture of apathy and excitement about returning to OH, and somewhat at ease about that pesky essay that just isn’t coming together for me. . .Speaking of which, I suppose I should head back to the grindstone.

What is your favorite thing to eat? I am a steak girl… with really good french fries.
Is there a book or movie that you would recommend? I am reading “Same Kind of Different as Me” right now… its pretty good. I am also reading some girlie books, but I don’t think you would like them…
Are you feeling content, complacent, or something in between? I am feeling content, but I also feel the God is pushing my comfort zone, making me grow.

1. Female.
2. 20. Apparently not the target age range for your blog!
3. I’m currently going to school in Philadelphia, but I mostly grew up in Michigan, so I’m quintessentially midwestern.
4. I was born in Key West and spent formative years living there, so I’m crazy about key lime pie. Only the kind made with key lime juice, though. There’s a difference. I also have a crazy weakness for homemade macaroni and cheese.
5. Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. It’s an amazing book; kind of like To Kill a Mockingbird set in the American West. It’s about family and religion and a lot of things I don’t ordinarily read books about – and it’s still my favorite.
6. I’m doing okay. Not fabulous, not awful. It’s been a long couple of months, but I’m hoping this year will be the start of something good.

I’m a 24 year old married mother of one 3 year old daughter, very close in age to Eva, actually. I live in Ludington, Michigan, where we enjoy the beach every summer, and a ton of lake effect snow in the winter. My favorite thing to eat is fettuccine alfredo, although I’m not allowing myself to eat it right now due to trying to cling to my New Year’s resolution of trying to eat healthier.
I’m reading an accounting book right now, and I don’t really recommend it unless you’re in an accounting class.
I haven’t watched many movies lately, but I have been watching the Tudors on Showtime, which has been both educational and entertaining.
Complacent is my current feeling. I wish I could do something else with my life other than being wife and mother, because it feels like I’ve lost my identity with gaining those two titles.

Both of them changed my life.

Originally from Columbus, OH (Go Bucks), then New Orleans for 4 years, then Houston for 5 years, and now Shreveport, LA for six months so far. My husband is in the oil and gas industry and I’d love it if our next move took us to the Marcellus Shale (Western Pennsylvania) so that I could finally be within a few short hours of visiting my family whenever my heart desired.
My favorite thing to eat is anything fresh and delicious. Right now I’m on a fresh pico de gallo integrated with some sort of chicken and monterey jack cheese combo. Mmmm…
I’m a simpleton when it comes to books. Reading replaces TV in my world so I like to be taken away to a simpler time and place. I generally find myself drawn to Christian fiction and especially enjoy Janette oke, Karen Kingsbury, and Tracy Peterson.
Fairly content. I enjoy my husband and children more than words can even describe, but I’ve lived away from my family for 11 years now and I miss them. We’ve also relocated recently so I’m still in starting over mode with no really good friends to help fill that void. I have goals in place to put myself out there and that will certainly help. In the meantime…THANK GOD for my honey and kids. I enjoy them so much.

My favorite movies are Tombstone and Boondack Saints
I am neither complacent or content. I actually find that I currently have enough of the world in me to feel akward at times in church and enough of the Holy Spirit in me to feel akward out in the world. Lately I feed my flesh more than my spirit so my flesh usually wins the spiritual tugs-of-war….I guess that’s in-between.

I’m feeling very unsatisfied with my life right now. Hey Ryan,
Im female, 47.
I live near Seattle, Washington.
My favorite food depends on the time of day, and the season. Nothing is as good as corn on the cob, that youve picked ten minutes earlier. That kind of persimmon that you can eat when it is hard, soft, or in between is the best sweet I have ever had. Vietnamese spring rolls are my favorite lunch. Smoky, meat falling off the bones ribs.
Srsly? Food eaten with friends. I became a coffee addict because my favorite sister lived with us for a few weeks and she ‘needed’ coffee every morning. Fell in love with Earl Grey sitting around the table with moms from my kids school. Foods with happy emotions attached are my favorites.
Support Your Local Sheriff is a hoot, and you can watch it with your daughter. The Tick(tv series) is also one of the best, very funny.
Read the Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold. Dont let the covers put you off.

3. I live in the small town of Mayberry. Seriously – Mount Airy, NC is known as Andy Griffith’s hometown and inspiration for his show.
4. Food is one of my favorite things in the whole world, so this is a very difficult question. I love to eat fresh fruit, Five Guys burgers and fries, Farmer’s Market delights, fresh baked sourdough bread, and my Granny’s chicken ‘n dumplins (she passed away 2 years ago, and I still long for them…)
5. I LOVE to read. I have several recommendations for you. I think you would love Time Traveler’s Wife. The movie is not good, and not like the book at all, so please don’t watch the movie first. I also love East of Eden by Steinbeck, 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia-Marquez, and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran-Foer
6. I’m not content right now… my classroom was flooded and destroyed and I lost a ton of technology that I had fought so hard for three years to obtain. Now, the insurance probably won’t cover everything, and it will take months to be replaced. My Journalism lab was the worst hit. I’m now sharing a classroom with another teacher…. Also, the elevator was knocked out and I am permanently disabled (walk with a cane), so it has become quite difficult to go to work each day. I do it for the kids. Without them, I wouldn’t be there.

Where do you live? I am currently in the Raleigh-Durham area, soon to be in the Columbia, SC area.
What is your favorite thing to eat? My favorite home cooked dinner of all time is chicken taco pie. Currently I am savouring a Lindt dark chocolate “touch of sea salt” bar. It’s amazing. I get buzzed off it. I love chocolate.
Is there a book or movie that you would recommend? Right now I’m in love with the dark visionary fantasy of “Franklyn”. It’s not entirely deep, but lordy, it’s *gorgeous*. If you have netflix, instant view it when you have a couple of hours.
Are you feeling content, complacent, or something in between? I’m distressed in a comfortable way. It’s been this way for 5 years, living crisis to crisis, little decompression time between. I’m looking forward to it being over soon. I just have to make sure I don’t then create crisis in my life because I’m so used to it being there. I’ll miss it like a bad habit I am sure. Oh man, I have so many favorite foods, I can’t possibly narrow them down to one, but a few are: pasta with homemade sauce (I make good sauce); mild sushi – like yellow fin tuna; anything Mexican; Pad Thai; mashed potatoes; and cheese…all cheese.
I recommend the book, Lamb… by Christopher Moore. I’m sure many see it as a sacreligious book, but it actually brought me closer to understanding Jesus…probably closer than any serious religious text I’ve read. That book speaks my language. You just can’t take yourself, or Moore too seriously.
I’m feeling okay today. But usually I struggle with feeling mediocre. I can do a lot of things, but I don’t do any one thing really well, and I wish I did. I just don’t feel very special sometimes.

Book: Years of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks (didn’t expect to like a book about the plague but it was great!) OR Bel Canto by Ann Patchett (great story about how connections develop amid devastating or tragic circumstances).

29-female-Indianapolis, Indiana-love traditional Italian food-recommend a book called Dear Mr President, it’s a collection of letters written to all the presidents by famous and non-famous people. A really fascinating read. You can find it on Amazon. Feeling fairly content at the moment-my twin girls just turned 6 months old and I’m feeling like I have some of my sanity back
Keep Well-I get really inspired by your blog, thanks for writing it!

Hello there,
I’m 31, female and from Hamburg, Germany. Am I the only German here?
Right now I love Liverwurst. But I also love everything with good old potateos.
I recommend watching the movie 8 femmes (8 women) with Catherine Deneuve. Yes, it’s a movie for women. But it is awesome.
Greetings from Hamburg,

I am a 60 year old female living near Chicago with the love of my life…my amazing husband. We have two grown kids and three grands…also the loves of my life.
Food…love all meat, potatoes, pasta, chocolate, etc etc
I read a lot and will do much more after retiring this spring…can’t pick a favorite but often read serious true-to-(not-always-great)-life fiction by women authors. My new favorite reads are the blogs that I’m following and I look forward to expanding that list exponentially after retiring too…so many amazing writers/photographers…including you.
Content…complacent…something in between??? Those words are foreign to me right now…see “retiring this spring” teehee!!!!

I’m female and 31….married with 2 kids (ages 6 and 2), not that you asked! I love pasta with creamy sauces and steak or shrimp, preferably together. Don’t watch many movies but the best book I’ve read has been The Circle Trilogy. I’m not content or complacent. We’re barely scraping by, just lost our house due to my husband’s company going under, and most weeks we have no more than $50 a week for groceries. I know there is more out there for us…we just can’t seem to figure it out. We took a wrong turn somewhere and we have to find our way back.

I am turning …. 30…. in not enough sleeps.
I live in Darwin, Australia. It’s hot here.
I love roast lamb dinners. Amen.
I love reading “Goodnight, Mr Tom” by Michelle Magorian. It’s a youth’s book, but I read it at least once every quater. We are old friends.
As for a movie, “I Am Sam” is the first one to jump to mind. “Good Will Hunting” is another.
I would say I’m content with the circumstances of my life… not so much so with some instances of it… like how I’m parenting, how my children are behaving, that sort of thing. Though, that could be because we are in the final week of a 6 week long end of year holiday, and we’re all going a little nuts.

Anyway, I’m 25 and live outside of Washington, DC. My favorite thing to eat is either dim sum or sushi, it is hard to pick.
I think my book recommendation will be “I’ll Never be French (no matter what I do)”

Favourite food? Currently can’t go past lamb chops roasted in the oven, with copious amounts of garlic & rosemary, with some decent mashed potatoes on the side. Maybe it’s because it’s summer here, and I’m longing for winter foods!
Movies – a ton. Too many to list, really. Book? Time Traveller’s Wife was pretty hard to go by.
Content? Definitely. Wifey and I are expecting our first baby in May, and I cannot wait. Add to that we’re going to become an Uncle and Aunty for the first time (hopefully) this week, this stage of life, and those around us, is pretty awesome. That and I have the best job in the world!

I’m a female, 25 years old. I live in western Oregon. My favorite thing to eat is almond roca, that I’ve been making every Christmas since I was a kid. The best fiction I’ve read recently is “The Time Traveler’s Wife”, by Audrey Niffenegger. Couldn’t get that one out of my head. For non-fiction, I’d have to go with “Outliers: The Story of Success”, by Malcolm Gladwell.
I’m feeling content, mostly because I just went on a really hard run and then ate a delicious lunch!

A book to recommend? I’m a Stranger Here Myself by Bill Bryson. I’m somewhere inbetween…i’m blessed with a wonderful family, an awesome husband, great friends and a beautiful home. Favorite food is hard – at the moment I really like comfort food, like homemade soups or stews, my brother makes mean Rouladen (there is even a recipe in the Wikipedia entry, you have to try it!).
As for books, one of my all time favorites is Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón: awesome depiction of Barcelona (one of my all time favorite cities), and a great suspense/drama/period story.
I am feeling something inbetween, though leaning more towards content, if that makes any sense

A book to recommend would be The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver (theres a whole list of recommended reads on my blog) and a movie recommendation (recent one anyway) would be Star Trek and I’ve never even seen a single tv show episode.
I think I’m feeling somewhere in between but definitely leaning more towards the content side

favorite food is…… food I guess. Tonight we are having a pork, tomato, garlic, sweet pepper, spicy thing over rice, so today that is my favorite.
I’m reading the The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy – he writes amazing books, always.
Movie – just a coincidence that it’s a Christian one – “Amazing Grace” was the last really good one we rented – about William Wilberforce.
Though normally contented, I am not right now. I sprained my knee 3 weeks ago and the pain and dealing with the inconvenience has drained me of creativity and that is always unsettling. A couple tragedies among family and friends this past year, spinning my wheels career-wise, politics, & a host of otherr niggling things have me down more than normal. Still a child of the King though – it’s a season, it will pass.

I did read that book a few years back, so if you don’t get a chance to see the movie, I can highly recommend the book.

I am a 49 (for another month) year old female. I live in a small town on the coast of Texas near Corpus Christi.
I love most food, but especially bacon, cheese, bread, butter. But lately I’ve been eating healthy- so not much of those, a lot more veggies, fruits and lean meat (if any meat).
Book? Hmmm, I’m a teacher and grad student so mostly I read textbooks.
Movie? Just saw Up in the Air, enjoyed it. Gonna watch Hurt Locker this week.
Content? After many ups and downs in our marriage, we are in a very good place. I am gaining self confidence in my professional life. I have a few friends. My children are grown and happy. Yes, I would say I am content. I’d even say happy on top of that.

As for books/movies….the movie UP was pretty good. Had me and my hubby crying. Twice. As for a book….Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. A great eye opening book about finances and how to get out of debt the smart way. We haven’t followed his plan to a t, but have modified it to fit our life and have elimited some debt.
