Our first family photo session…

0001

It’s kind of strange really. Of the thousands and thousands of photographs I’ve taken over the years, we’ve never had photos taken of our family. You know…from like…a real photographer. Our friend Kelly @ Daphne Photo Studio shoots photos of families all the time – this time, it was ours.

It felt awkward to me. I’ve hidden behind the camera so much that I don’t really know how to act – how to stand – how to smile – or where to put my hands when the lens is pointed in my direction. Oh, the turmoil I’ve caused others as an image sniper.

What the camera doesn’t know is that I forced my broken foot into a normal shoe and hobbled about without my crutches to appear at least somewhat normal. Something about wearing a goofy looking boot would have been a bad contrast. The pain we endure for vanity.

Sometimes you just need a grape in the middle of your model session. Have to keep that energy up.

Quick! Change clothes! Switch Location! Praise Jesus. Something to lean against.

You have a beautiful family and your photographer did a great job capturing these moments. I don’t know why it’s so tough to nail yourself down and take family photos. We’re terrible about doing that as well. We might only have 1 or 2 actual family photo shoots we’ve done through the years. I’m hoping to do another one in a few weeks with a photographer friend of mine.

  9. These are really great. I love the one of the four of you walking away on the bridge.

PS, I’m also very awkward in front of the camera. It’s so much nicer to be behind it.

Great pictures! The girls are very pretty, the boys very suave and handsome. The “Something to lean against” comment about had me rolling on the floor laughing. I’m sure the pain your in is not funny, but that whole blurb was. Great family! Love ya guys!

  38. so neat! We just had our 1st outdoor family session done too…only my kids are 14 and 17 now! I made it just before my daughter turns 18 because it’s been on the list of things to do for that long. I love your pics. Everybody looks casual, but gorgeous. :-)

Kelly did a great job. I agree with everyone who commented before me: you have a gorgeous family. Kids are adorable! Is that a clip-on tie Finn’s rockin? My brother went through a phase when he was 5ish where all he would wear was a short-sleeved shirt and a clip on tie. Even to Disneyworld! I saw Allison and the kids one time in Target’s dressing room but I was too nervous to say hello, she might think I’m a stalker. “Hi, I read your husband’s blog, blah blah blah.” Totally creepy. But these portraits are great. How’s the foot healing?
